Tim Taylor

2019

Coach Tim Taylor loves basketball. Growing up in South Bend, WA, he learned the game by both playing and watching. He spent many hours outside in the driveway with his older brothers Scott and Mike, along with their father, Lloyd. Young Tim watched his older brothers play and learned that basketball is a simple game. He furthered his education of the game by playing for two Hall of Fame Coaches in Don Koplitz (South Bend) and Don Zech (UPS), both of whom

preached that keeping the game simple was the best way to play. After a stellar career at South Bend HS, his success followed him to the University of Puget Sound where he played for years.

After college Coach Taylor settled in Brewster, WA. Coming to Brewster with a college friend and teammate, Tim established himself as an orchard farmer and family man. He has six children and six grandchildren. In 1996 Tim started his coaching career at Brewster High School as the C Team coach. One year later he was hired as the head varsity coach. Since that time, Tim has coached each of his sons, Michael, Stockton, Timbo and Joe, capped by coaching both Timbo and Joe in 2016. He also had many bus trips with his two daughters Martha and Becky Mae who played for the Brewster girls varsity. On top of that, he has coached 9 nephews and many family friends in his time at Brewster.

There is a plethora of accolades to consider when you talk about Coach Taylor, but if you ask him, he will say his success is displayed in the relationships he has made with his players and fellow coaches over the years. He will also tell you that he takes pride in the conversations he has had with colleagues, media and fans regarding his teams. He has often been told that his teams are easy to watch and impossible to scout. “Your teams never run anything,” they say. Coach Taylor’s teams have always had the freedom to decide what happens on the floor and he gives them the opportunity to take ownership of how they play. If you ask him, he will say he simply gives his guys a structure to work out of and all he asks for is eff ort and communication. His off ense has always been free fl owing and simple. It would be easy to give the credit for his success here, but if you have watched closely, his teams have consistently played hard nose man to man defense with great eff ort and selflessness. This has been the foundation to their success.

With a career record of 415-94, Coach Taylor’s 19-year run is Hall of Fame worthy, but the way his teams have gone about their run is remarkable, classy and a reflection of their coach.
