Mike Hull

2016

Pateros High School graduate Mike Hull returned to Pateros in 1981 as a teacher and coach. He began his high school basketball coaching career at Pateros in 1984 and took over the boys program in 1985. Coach Hull had only two losing seasons throughout his tenure en route to an overall record of 412-244 (63.6%). Hull joined a small number of Basketball Coaches to win 400 games in the state of Washington.

Hull led the Billygoats to their first ever State Tournament appearance in 1995 in the Coliseum’s last hurrah and in 1996 Pateros went 29-1 on their way to their first and only State “B” Championship in the new Spokane Arena. Under Hull, Pateros qualified for eight State Tournament appearances overall and earned five trophies. In March his championship team was honored at the 20th anniversary of Spokane Arena.

Hull was named the State “B” Coach of the year in 1995 and 1996 and coached the A/B Washington East/West game in both of those years.

For Mike and his family—wife Diane, children Clint, Hanna, and Clara, basketball has been a big part of their life. Family vacations included basketball tournaments across the nation. They had a basketball slab in their front yard that included lights for basketball 24/7. One of the many highlights of his career was coaching his son and watching his daughters play the game right before he coached. All three children went on to play college basketball. For the Hull family “Basketball is Life.”

In 2012, Mike became the Pateros K-12 Principal and now “Every day is Game Day.”
