Jim Thacker attended Central Valley High School, graduating in 1965. He then attended Spokane Community College where he was MVP in 1966 Tourney. He then attended University of Idaho -All Big Sky 1968 and 1969.
Jim taught English at Gooding High School in Gooding, Idaho from
1970 – 1972. Next he taught History at Omak High School in Omak, Washington from 1972 – 1974. Then on to Walla Walla High School teaching History, English and P.E. from 1976 – 2005. He taught History at Lake City High school, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho from 2005 -2008.
His coaching experience began at Connifer Basketball Camp as Counselor/Coach from 1965 – 1975. At Gooding High School he coached Varsity Basketball from 1970 – 1972 where their win/loss record was 51-2, 25-2 (State Champions, 1971), (State Champions, 1972). On to Omak High School for Varsity Basketball from 1972 – 1974 with a win/loss record of 47-4. lA (2nd) 1973 2A (4th). He coached Varsity Basketball at Walla Walla High School from 1976 – 2005 with a win/loss record of 395-298. They were Big Nine Champions in 1983, 1986, 1990 and 1999, District Champions in 1983 and 1986. They participated in Regionals in 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991,
1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 and were Regional Championships in 2003. They played in State Tournament in 1976 where they placed 8th, 1983 2nd, 1986 6th, 1988, 1989, 1990 5th, and 1991, in 1999 were State Champions, in 2003 placed 8th and in 2004, 7th. At Lake City High School Jim coached Varsity Basketball from 2005
– 2008 with a win/loss record of 42-28. His overall win/loss record is 535 – 332 in
Washington and Idaho.
In 1972, Jim was 2A Coach of the Year at Gooding High School. He was Big Nine Coach of the Year six times, Blue Mountain Coach of the Year 3 times and 4A Coach of the Year at Walla Walla in 1999.
Jim is married to his wife, Jan, and has three Children, Jay, who is Head Basketball Coach at Goldendale; Jamie, Assistant Basketball Coach at Coeur d’Alene High School; and Jayne who is married to Trevor Blackwell. He also has a grandson, Connar Blackwell.
