Del Schafer has performed in many different areas that has helped high school players in 34 years in public education. Del graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in 1950, having played for Marv Harshman, who influenced him into coaching and the style of basketball that took the Franklin Pierce Cardinals to the State Tournament 5 times. He helped open the new school called Franklin Pierce in 1952. His varsity teams, in 15 years, won over 60% of the games played. The Cardinals won 164 games and 4 Conference Championships and finished in the top 4, eight times.
