Bob Anderson

Coach Anderson a graduate of Seattle Pacific University where he played both basketball and ran track. Bob started his coaching at Puyallup High School where he was the sophomore coach for 3 years and JV coach for one year. His record for those four years was 71 wins and 5 losses.

Bob went from Puyallup to Sumner High School where he was the head coach for 9 years. His Sumner teams won 121 and lost 45; were league champions 3 times and co-champions twice. Also at Sumner he was 2nd in state in 1968 and 4th in 1970.

From 1971 to 1984 Bob coached at Juanita High School where his record was 240 wins and 103 loses. In Bob’s 13 years at Juanita his teams were in the state playoffs 9 of his last 10 years. In 1973 Juanita finished 3rd in state, 1976 4th in state, 1977 state, 1980 4th in state, 1981 6th in state, and 1984 won the State Championship.

Bob’s overall record as a head coach: 361 wins and 148 losses. The 1984 Juanita Rebels were the first Kingco Conference boy’s basketball team to win the AAA State Championship.

Additionally, Bob was a leader in the state AAU JR. Olympics and the BCI programs. He gave Washington state basketball “national attention” in the early 1970’s with exceptional success coaching AAU summer teams. His National AAU teams set a national record by placing in the Top Four, four years in row: 1976-4th, 1977-4th, 1978-2nd, 1979-3rd. His B.C.I. teams placed 2nd in 1978 and 4th in 1979.

Bob was also chosen as a McDonald’s All-American High School basketball coach in

1977 and chosen Washington State AAA Coach of the Year in 1984.

During all these years, Bob’s wife Beverly was very supportive of all these programs. They have three children and five grandchildren.
